Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MEB’s tutoring services. If you cannot find your answer here, contact us on WhatsApp at +91 8971 383660 or email meb@myengineeringbuddy.com — we respond within minutes, 24/7.

1. Getting Started

Contact us on WhatsApp at +91 8971 383660 or email meb@myengineeringbuddy.com. Tell us your subject, your academic level, and what you want to achieve. Our student helpline team — real humans, available 24/7 — will match you with the right tutor within the hour. No registration, no subscription, no app to download.
MEB’s primary service is private 1:1 online tutoring across 2,800+ subjects. Within tutoring sessions, our tutors also provide academic guidance on homework, assignments, essays, lab reports, and projects — all framed as learning support. We also offer dedicated test preparation tutoring for AP, SAT, ACT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, IB, A-Level, EmSAT, and other exams. See our Academic Integrity Policy for how we approach homework guidance.
No. MEB is a pay-as-you-go service. There are no accounts, no subscriptions, no auto-renewals, and no lock-in. You pay only for the sessions you book. Contact us on WhatsApp, agree on a tutor and fee, pay, and start. That is the entire process.
Yes, and this is common. Many parents contact us directly, explain their child’s needs, and manage the booking process on their behalf. We are equally comfortable communicating with a parent, guardian, or the student themselves.
Our student helpline team operates 24/7 in rotating shifts, so there is always a real person available to respond on WhatsApp — typically within minutes. Our tutors are primarily based in India, which means they naturally cover night hours for students in the USA, Canada, and Gulf countries. For UK and Australian students, tutor availability is best during morning hours (your time). When you contact us, we will confirm availability for your preferred time slot.
We serve students globally, with our primary markets being the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Jordan. If you are outside these regions, contact us and we will confirm whether we can help.
It means exactly what it says. When you message us on WhatsApp, you speak to a real member of our helpline team — not a chatbot. When you attend a tutoring session, your tutor is a real person. Tutor matching is done by our team, not an algorithm. We do not use AI in any part of the tutoring or student support process. This is a deliberate choice.

2. The $1 Trial Session

The $1 trial gives you 30 minutes of live 1:1 tutoring with a real tutor of your choice, for just $1. It is a real session — same tutors, same platform (Google Meet), same quality as a paid session. You can use it to assess whether the tutor is a good fit before committing to more sessions.
The trial is available to new students only — one trial per student. It cannot be used as a discount mechanism for returning students.
Yes. If you are not satisfied with your trial session, contact us within 24 hours and we will refund your $1 in full. No questions asked.
If you are happy with the tutor, you book regular sessions at the standard hourly rate. If you would prefer a different tutor, we will match you with another one at no extra charge. 75% of students find their preferred tutor on the first trial.
Yes. You can browse tutor profiles on our website and request a specific tutor. If that tutor is unavailable at your preferred time, we will suggest the next best match.

3. Our Tutors

MEB has 1,000+ verified tutors. Most hold degrees from IITs, NITs, and equivalent top-tier institutions globally. Many hold Master’s degrees or PhDs or are currently pursuing them. All tutors must pass a written subject knowledge test and a practical problem-solving interview before joining. Credentials are verified against academic records, transcripts, and professional profiles. See Why Choose MEB for more detail on our selection process.
Our student helpline team does the matching manually. When you contact us, we ask about your subject, academic level, course, textbook if applicable, and what you want to achieve. Based on that, we identify the tutor best suited to your specific needs. You are not matched by an algorithm. If the first tutor is not a good fit, we find another at no charge.
Yes. If you have used a tutor before and want to continue with them, just let us know when you book. We will assign the same tutor subject to their availability. If they are unavailable at your preferred time, we will suggest an alternative slot or a different tutor.
Yes, any number of times. If a tutor is not the right fit — for any reason including teaching style, pace, accent, or approach — contact us and we will assign a different one at no extra cost.
English is the primary medium of instruction. Some tutors are also proficient in Arabic, Hindi, or other languages, and we will try to accommodate language preferences where possible. Inform us of any language requirements when you book.
We specifically recruit tutors with neutral accents for our primary markets. For students in the USA, Canada, UK, and Gulf, we maintain a pool of tutors with clear American or British English proficiency. If you find a tutor’s accent difficult to follow, contact us immediately — we will assign a replacement and will not charge you for the affected session.
MEB is operated by BlueAura iSolutions Private Limited, a company incorporated under Indian law (CIN: U93000BR2015PTC023959). We are not accredited by any government body or exam board, and we do not claim to be. We are a private tutoring service. Our credibility comes from 18+ years of operation, 52,000+ students served, and a 97% satisfaction rate — not from institutional accreditation.

4. Sessions & Technology

Sessions are conducted live on Google Meet. You and the tutor share an online whiteboard where both of you can write, draw, and annotate in real time. Before the session, share any relevant materials (lecture notes, textbook pages, past papers) on WhatsApp so the tutor can prepare. After the session, the tutor sends notes and suggested practice problems via WhatsApp within 24 hours. For a detailed breakdown, see Our Tutoring Methodology.
Most sessions are 60 minutes. Shorter sessions of 30 minutes are available, including the $1 trial. Longer sessions of 90 minutes or more can be arranged for intensive exam preparation or complex topics. Discuss your preferred duration when booking.
Sessions are primarily voice and whiteboard. Video from the tutor’s side is not standard — the whiteboard and voice interaction are sufficient for effective learning. If you specifically want video enabled, let us know and we can arrange it subject to tutor preference.
Yes, and we actively encourage it. The whiteboard is two-way — both you and the tutor can write, draw, and annotate simultaneously. You can write your attempt on the board, the tutor can annotate it directly, and you can point to the exact step you do not understand in real time. This is one of the most valuable features of our sessions.
You need a laptop or tablet (iPad or Android tablet) with a stable internet connection and access to Google Meet — no software installation required, just a browser. A mobile phone screen is too small for effective tutoring and is not recommended. For the best whiteboard experience, use an Apple Pencil with an iPad, a stylus with an Android tablet, or a digital pen pad connected to a laptop. If you only have a mouse or trackpad, sessions still work but writing on the whiteboard is more limited.
Yes. Share files such as lecture notes, textbook pages, assignment PDFs, or screenshots via WhatsApp before or during the session. The tutor can also receive files through the whiteboard’s upload feature during the session.
You can record sessions on your own device using Google Meet’s built-in recording feature or your device’s screen recording tool. MEB does not provide session recordings from our end, but we do provide written session notes from the tutor via WhatsApp after each session.
Yes. If you and your friends want to attend a session together, contact us and we can arrange a small group session at a nominally higher fee than a solo session. The cost per person works out cheaper than individual sessions. Sessions remain focused and interactive — we do not run large group classes.
If the connection issue is on the student’s side and the tutor is ready and available, the session fee applies for the time the tutor was present. If the issue is on the tutor’s side, we will either extend the session to compensate or offer a partial credit. Contact us on WhatsApp if a technical issue affects your session and we will resolve it fairly.
Yes. After every session, the tutor sends written notes covering key concepts discussed and suggested practice problems via WhatsApp. These are included in the session fee at no extra cost.

5. Subjects, Levels & Pricing

We cover 2,800+ subjects spanning engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical, electronics, aerospace, chemical, petroleum, industrial, mechatronics, computer science), mathematics (calculus, algebra, differential equations, linear algebra, statistics), sciences (physics, chemistry, biology), programming (Python, Java, C/C++, data science, machine learning), business, finance, economics, psychology, philosophy, English, and many more. View the full subject list on our Subjects page. If your subject is not listed, contact us — our range is constantly expanding.
We cover school level (Grades 7 through 12), AP and IB programmes, undergraduate college and university (the majority of our students), and postgraduate or Master’s level. We do not currently offer PhD-level research supervision, but we can help with individual postgraduate courses and coursework.
Science and mathematics syllabuses are largely consistent across institutions globally, so our tutors are familiar with the core content regardless of where you study. For courses with institution-specific content, share your lecture notes, textbook, and any course outline when you book, and the tutor will align their teaching to your exact material. For non-science subjects, sharing the course outline and textbook is essential.
Yes, for exam preparation tutoring — working through past papers, identifying weak areas, and consolidating understanding — we can help even on short notice. Contact us on WhatsApp and we will confirm tutor availability for your timeframe. Please note: we provide exam preparation tutoring, not assistance during live exams or proctored assessments. See our Academic Integrity Policy for our position on this.
Yes. Many of our students work with the same tutor consistently over weeks or months. Once you find a tutor you are happy with, we will schedule ongoing sessions with them subject to availability. For students committing to regular long-term tutoring, contact us to discuss package arrangements.
Tutoring starts at $20/hr. Our four pricing tiers are: School (Grade 10 and below) from $20/hr; College Aspirant (Grade 11–12, AP/IB prep) from $25/hr; College or University undergraduate from $30/hr; Masters and above from $35/hr. The average across all levels is approximately $25/hr. See our Pricing page for full details.
Tutoring session rates are set by the tutors themselves within our guidelines and are generally fixed. For homework and assignment guidance within sessions, fees depend on complexity, time required, and deadline proximity, and there is some flexibility. If the quoted fee does not fit your budget, contact us and we will check with additional tutors. We never start work before fee agreement.
For students committing to regular long-term tutoring across multiple sessions per week over an extended period, we can discuss package pricing. Contact us on WhatsApp to discuss your specific requirements. We do not advertise flat discount rates because the right arrangement depends on subject, level, and frequency.

6. Payments, Cancellations & Refunds

We accept PayPal (including guest payment with a credit or debit card, no PayPal account required), international bank transfer, UPI (for Indian students), and direct Indian bank transfer. Payment is required in full before a session begins or before work on any homework guidance starts. We do not accept payment after delivery under any circumstances.
We accept USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, INR, KWD, AED, SAR, and most other major currencies. If your currency is not listed, ask us — international transfers in most currencies are accepted.
No. As a policy, tutors do not begin any session or work without full advance payment. This applies without exception.
Cancelled more than 48 hours before the session: full refund. Cancelled 24–48 hours before the session: 90% refund (10% scheduling fee deducted). Cancelled less than 24 hours before the session: 80% refund (20% deducted). No-show without notice: 50% refund. If your tutor cancels or does not show up, you receive a full refund or a free replacement session — your choice. Contact us on WhatsApp at +91 8971 383660 for all cancellation requests.
Rescheduled more than 48 hours before the session: free of charge. Rescheduled less than 48 hours before the session: 15% rescheduling fee applies. We cannot always guarantee the same tutor for rescheduled sessions. If your preferred tutor is unavailable at the new time, we will offer an alternative. Contact us on WhatsApp for all rescheduling requests.
Contact us within 24 hours of the session. We will offer either a free replacement session with a different tutor, or a full or partial refund depending on the circumstances. This guarantee is backed personally by our founder. For full details including all refund scenarios, see our Policies page and our Refund Policy.
Refunds are returned to the original payment method. For PayPal payments, the refund goes back to the same PayPal account or card used. Processing time is 7–10 business days after approval. To request a refund, email meb@myengineeringbuddy.com with the subject “Refund Request” or contact us on WhatsApp.

7. Academic Integrity & Ethics

Tutoring is our primary service: a live 1:1 session where a qualified tutor explains concepts, works through problems with you, and helps you build genuine understanding. Homework guidance is provided within tutoring sessions — a tutor can walk through a problem step by step, explain the method, and help you understand how to approach similar problems yourself. What we do not do is complete graded assessments for students to submit as their own work without any learning involvement. See our Academic Integrity Policy for the full picture.
No. We do not provide assistance during live exams, timed assessments, or proctored tests of any kind. This applies without exception. If you need help preparing for an upcoming exam, contact us in advance and we will arrange exam preparation tutoring sessions.
Our tutors are trained to explain, not just solve. A step-by-step solution with the reasoning behind each step is a learning resource. Our methodology is built around involving the student — asking questions, letting you attempt problems, and adjusting the explanation when something is not clear. Tutors who simply hand over answers without engaging the student do not last at MEB. See Our Tutoring Methodology for how sessions actually work.
All written guidance provided by MEB tutors is original work prepared specifically for you. We do not recycle content between students. For written assignments, tutors conduct original research, write independently, and run work through a plagiarism checker before delivery. If you share session materials with another student and both submit similar work, any academic penalty is your responsibility. See our Originality Policy for full details.
Yes. Private tutoring is a well-established and widely accepted form of academic support. Universities have writing centres. Schools run after-hours help sessions. Parents hire tutors. Online private tutoring is the same thing — more accessible and more flexible. The ethical line is between using tutoring to learn and understand (legitimate) versus having someone complete your graded assessments for you without your engagement (not legitimate). MEB exists to help students on the right side of that line. See our Academic Integrity Policy for a detailed discussion.
